BC BR Type Coilovers for Nissan 240SX S13

Box Inside Front Collars Front Camber Plate Rear Rear top

Visual Impression: Our new sponsor BC Racing was kind enough to send us their new line of BR Type Coilovers. (8/6 spring rates) They came in a bright colorful sturdy package. They come carefully packaged with foam padded bags. The build quality is very good. The machining is precise, the casting and anodizing on the collars is superb. They did not skimp on the hardware. Powdercoating is clean and shiny.

Driving Impression: Street- On the way to practice, I drove on the street and immediately noticed the dampening was "friendlier" than my previous setup. This is mostly due to the spring rates of 8/6. Car was not overly stiff or bouncy. These rates are great for a car that sees a lot of street use.

Drifting Impression: Once we got to to the spot, I forgot to stiffen my settings before drifting but car felt stable and I didn't feel the need to get out and tighten it any more. I can't say that about my previous setup. Car felt stiff enough even with these rates and setting (3 clicks from softest setting) without being too jarring. In my previous setup I would almost always have it about 2 click from stiffest to feel stiff enough and it would be bouncy. I have yet to drive these on stiffer settings. I will give review of that soon. I like that I was able to drive these hard on soft settings and drive on the street comfortably without getting out of the car.

Update: I received the 12/10 spring rates and I must say that the car feels much more stable and even though the shocks remain the same, the dampening is still fine for this application. Thumbs up for this new setup!- Chachi

BC Racing BR Full Coilover Kit for NA6C/NA8C Miata.

Ok guys I have owned these coilovers for a long enough time to give a honest review. The coilovers have been used and abused, 6 drifting events and a hard K-rail accident at 60 mph (direct rear suspension hit). With no signs of wear!

Design Impression: Quality is always the 1st thing you notice when you open any box, well I opened the box with a smile like a kid on Christmas morning. The eye catching Gold and Black colors cover an extremely well machined product. Just looking at the product you can tell that its beefy. The threaded shock body allows preload adjustment while the threaded lower mount allows ride height adjustment. There is also easily adjustable dampening at the top of the shock shaft. Pillowball upper shock mounts are very solid and get rid of the sloppy factory Miata rubber mounts.

First Driving Impression: Being that my car is a full blown track car that very rarely sees public roads I opted for the 12K front and 10k rear spring rates. My previous set up was Tein HA’s with 10k / 8k Spring rates.

As I took the initial run with the new set up I immediately noticed the much more predictable dampening, less abrupt transition, and an overall smoother drift. The car is much more controllable, less slop due to the pillowball upper mounts, and no more smacking those bumpstops from being to low. Shock travel is longer then needed and consistent over all terrain.

After a couple of runs and adjusting the dampers I shortly realized that the shocks have a sweet spot in my vehicle through the entire midrange of adjustability, depending on the speed and surface of the track it can be adjusted to fit your needs. Over dampering is not needed to keep stability like other shocks, and you can finally really tune the car for all track conditions.

Conclusion: For my application the BR type coilovers are exactly what the doctor ordered. As stated above these are almost perfect coilovers for any application due to their crisp dampening, smooth transition, ability to allow low ride heights and extended shock travel, pre-load and ride height separately adjustable, and rad looking machine work.   -Chelsea DeNofa
